cad overlay bike geometry
August 19th, 2012
I photographed each bike to compare seat and handlebar positions. For fun, I took it a bit further and traced frame center lines.
Note/Disclaimer: the fork rake and trail measurements are not reliable as I did notice some minor distortion. Actually, I doubt any measurement is all that perfect.
I am surprised to find the Panasonic has the steepest seat tube, and the trail is higher than I imagined. Also the Panasonic feels it needs more seat setback; this exercise helped to illustrate that.
The rSogn is very close to spec (aside from fork rake). Not shown is the 65 mm bb drop, which is spot on when measured in AutoCAD.

Rawland rsogn and nishiki professional overlay
August 19th, 2012
An overly of my Rawland rsogn and circa 1974 Nishiki Professional. The geometry is very similar. It is interesting to compare the handlebar reach of each set up. Next post, I will show the geometry by overlaying lines in CAD.
The cross hairs are for aligning at the bottom bracket. The seat contour is of the Rawland.

I photographed my bikes to compare geometry. Here’s a collage of each in a row.
